Ways to Relieve Stress

If you’re constantly under a lot of stress – may it be from crazy work deadlines or from overwhelming demands of daily life – this may impact your mental and physical health and may even affect your relationships and quality of life.

Relieving yourself of stress is thus very important. As a woman who has a lot on her plate and can’t afford to lose her sanity even for one bit, you should take necessary actions to reduce stress and its harmful effects in your everyday life.

Here’s how you can manage stress more effectively. These tips will not only help you relieve stress but can also help soothe and recharge your senses.

  1. Meditate. Meditation techniques help focus your mind to ease anxiety. Studies show that meditating every day alters the brain’s neural pathways to help a person become more resilient to stress. Meditation is pretty simple: Just sit up straight, close your eyes, and focus your mind on reciting a positive mantra (like “I am at peace” or “I am a strong, confident woman”). Make sure to sync the mantra with your breaths and don’t let any distractions enter your thoughts.
  2. Listen to music. Take a break from any stressful situation you’re in and listen to classical music to relax your nerves. Classical music has a calming, positive effect on the body, which lowers your blood pressure and reduces cortisol, a hormone associated with stress. If you don’t have any classical music in your playlist, you can opt for nature or ocean sounds to soothe your mind and body.
  3. Write. Writing about anything that bothers you has therapeutic effects. It helps you determine the causes of your stress and how those situations made you feel. By writing about things that bother you, you will be able to find effective ways to manage your stress.
  4. Talk to someone you trust. Call a friend or a family member and express how you feel. Talk about the things that have been overwhelming you and ask for advice on how you can better address them. Their thoughts about your situation can help you put everything in perspective.
  5. Relax your mind and body with lavender. Lavender has a soothing scent that helps lower heart rate and blood pressure. This herb not only helps you relax but can also give you a good night’s sleep. Slather on a lavender-infused moisturizer before going to bed to calm your senses and feel refreshed the next day.
  6. Take up a hobby. Doing something that you enjoy will help you relax and take your mind off things or situations that cause stress. You can try gardening or do creative stuff like art or crafts. If you’re not into any kind of hobby, you can do fun yet entertaining activities like playing with your pets or watching your favorite TV show.
  7. Pamper yourself with a Swedish massage. Swedish massage, unlike any other type of massage, is more helpful in managing stress, as it involves gentle, soothing strokes that not only relax you but also improve your blood circulation.
